Former Walmart – Christiansburg, VA

Photo description:

There were some recent traffic light replacement projects on US 460 Business and I would assume that the property management let the city store their old traffic lights on the property. I have a traffic light so the actual size of the light didn’t surprise me, but I have never been up close to a traffic light still attached to its mast. Since the lenses were bent up and missing, and the reflectors are all bent, I assume these are destined to be thrown away or recycled.

This former Walmart is at The Marketplace Shopping Center in Christiansburg, VA off US 460 Business. If you look at this complex on Google Maps, it looks like the property management has been slowly letting leases expire because this complex was just about completely empty except for a Harbor Freight Tools.

As the case for almost every former Walmart store, it one was subdivided into three smaller stores; the store on the left was a Tractor Supply, I don’t know what the middle store was, and the store on the right (which surprisingly had the original Walmart entrance) was a Books a Million of all things. I tried going on Street View to see if I could figure out the middle store but these three stores have been vacant since at least 2012.
