Former GEX/Ollie’s Bargain Outlet – Hampton, Virginia

This is the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet # 48 at 4019 West Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA.

This store is part of what originally was a Government Employees Exchange (GEX) store, and later subdivided.

GEX was a members only club, similar to Costco or Sam’s Club, but eligibility for membership was limited to government employees.

One of GEX’s notable architecture features was the tent shaped roof. I would assume it was visible (and not covered by ceiling tiles) when it was GEX, but it’s really cool that Ollie’s (and other tenants) continue to have the original ceiling exposed.

(And yes, the space that housed Ollie’s was previously Toys ‘R Us)
