This is the remains of the Maglev system that would allow ODU students to "ride in style".

What blows me away is how much went into this before they pulled the plug on it: tracks were laid, a train was tested (and placed on the system), and at least one station was built. The tracks were auctioned off, the train is gone, and the station was demolished. The only thing that remains is the ugly structure.

According to the University, research is still "ongoing". Whether that means the Maglev will return is anybody’s guess, but I doubt it. There are currently no Maglev systems in the United States.

But hey, tax dollars at work.
