Frederick Towne Mall – Frederick, MD

Photo description:

As I was taking this picture, an older gentleman driving by asked if I was interested in buying the mall. I laughed and assured him that I was indeed not, and I was only interested in taking pictures. He told me that this complex is a big eyesore to the locals and wishes that someone would open it again. According to Wikipedia (which isn’t a very reliable source) locals say that the mall may reopen. That would be awesome if it happened, but I doubt that will happen, unfortunately. This is the back entrance closest to Boscov’s.

This mall opened in 1973 and closed in April, 2013. The anchor stores on either side (Boscov’s and Home Depot, although there is no entrance to the mall from Home Depot) are still open and operating normally. There have been a couple of redevelopment plans, such as a Walmart and another Cinema but so far nothing has happened. As of now, all entrances have been secured and a security system (with cameras) has been installed to deter intruders.
