This is the SHOPPERS Food at 4174 Fortuna Ctr Plz, Montclair, VA.
SHOPPERS is owned by UNFI (formerly SuperValu), and, like Farm Fresh (another chain owned by SuperValu), UNFI was preparing to exit the direct retail market by closing all SHOPPERS stores effectively dissolving the chain.
In June 2021, UNFI had a ‘change of heart’ and announced that they will continue to own and operate the existing SHOPPERS locations that haven’t closed, along with reacquiring some stores that have closed.
Growing up in Stafford and shopping at the location formerly at Aquia Towne Center, the SHOPPERS chain holds a lot of sentimental value to me; and it makes me happy to see UNFI reversing their decision to continue to operate these stores. It’s unfortunate that Farm Fresh didn’t get the same fate, although the brand still exists with the help of local grocery operators.
